WELCOME TO E-FARMS

Efficient. Economic. Electric.

The E-Farms program tests electric farming equipment, compares it to traditional combustion models, and works to reduce barriers to electrifying working lands. We lend electric tractors, pickup trucks, UTVs, and more to farmers, ranchers, and other users at no cost. In turn, we collect feedback on benefits and limitations, comparability to non-electric equipment, and consumer preferences.

WHY GO ELECTRIC?

  • Electric motors cost less to operate, fuel, and maintain, saving farmers money.

  • No exhaust or harmful diesel fumes that can cause respiratory illnesses.

  • Better for the climate. E-tractors emit 85% less climate pollution compared to diesel.

  • Quiet engines improve working conditions for the operator and others nearby.

  • Reduced need for on-site diesel fuel storage.

  • Perform just as well as other tractors with the same horsepower.

The E-Farms team is made up of four nonprofit organizations – Sustainable Northwest, Forth, Wy'East RC&D, and Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Together, we brought the first electric tractors to farms in Oregon in 2021 to evaluate the new technology.

We work to understand where electric farming equipment is best suited and its potential limitations. As the initiative grows, we continue to test and demonstrate new brands, models, and types of equipment including electric trucks and UTVs.
